Over 300 years

For 300 years, the Steinbiss sawmill has stood in the forest-rich Schwarzwald-Baar district. The Finkbeiner family took it over 100 years ago. Now managed in its fifth generation, our family company has grown into the largest sawmill in the district.

More than 200 customers across Europe benefit from consistent quality, assured by a large roundwood yard and state-of-the-art technology.

Excellent infrastructure and a convenient location on the B33 make it possible to respond to specific customer requirements and deliver at speed.

To further develop this service, FINKBEINER acquired the Hilser haulage company in 2020. This unique regional partnership creates an even faster, smoother chain from forest to sawmill and gives customers more flexibility throughout the process. It led to FINKBEINER Logistics and vehicle engineering GmbH: at our new Nußbacher Straße site in Triberg, we operate our own independent commercial-vehicle workshop alongside roundwood logistics, open to all brands and external customers.

Sustainability — nothing new to us

Anyone working with wood as a raw material carries responsibility for forests and energy. We use every part of the log: sawdust, woodchips and bark become electricity and heat in our biomass combined heat and power plant, complemented by the Gutach’s hydropower and photovoltaics.

This enables us to cover our energy needs on a net basis. In purchasing, we also rely on short distances and certified forestry.

Our principles

What we stand for

  • Quality

    High-tech and expertise

We continuously invest in modern machinery and pass our knowledge on to apprentices across generations — to deliver the best result for our customers.

  • Reliability

    Thanks to independence

An integrated production chain and our own logistics help us remain as independent of external influences as possible — since 1922.

  • Region

    Rooted in the Black Forest

Short distances to the raw material, responsibility for forest and neighbours, and a business that stays and invests here.
